fall excursions

Here are some scenes from this fall. Over the last few months I've hopscotched around New England, visiting friends and places from my past and present. Something about this time of year makes me want to get out and go. Must be the cool air. That's Mt. Washington buried in early morning clouds.

Day trips in the fall are the best. I think most would agree. In mid October, I spent a few days in central Vermont along the Route 2 corridor.

I hit up all the usual suspects along the way. Plainfield, Montpelier, Burlington, and points between. Even though it was mid-October, the leaves were mostly past peak. I've learned if you want to see color in VT, get there by late September to early October.

Sleepy but lovely Montpelier. This little town floods my heart and soul with good memories.

Off to Burlington. I hadn't actually been up there in about 10 years.

Not much has changed, naturally. Church Street looks about the same. Still busy.

I spent a lot of time at Pure Pop records in college. I found many treasures here. In this day of digital music, it's almost easy to forget how much time I spent collecting imports and maxi-singles. Those were the best, with all those b-sides and such. The 90's were rad.

An odd basement of a shop, Pure Pop was a great place to spend an hour. Not quite the same vibe anymore. Their CD selection doesn't appear to be quite as ambitious as it used to be. Just the normal fare now, overly priced, collecting dust.

There was hope in the local stacks though.

Lake Champlain is lovely as ever. Living by the ocean, I forget how serene lakes can be. The stillness of it all. You can see the Adirondacks across the way. No sign of Champ though.

Wassap, Cap'n?

Nice day. Ayup.

Back home to find..

..the first snow of the year.

Just a dusting. More to come, fo sho.

Onward to Beantown a few weeks later. Ma and me met up with Ryan since he had a 24 hour layover in Boston. We had an impromptu Thanksgiving at Durgin Park. Ryan was already tired from the first leg of his trip. The turkey dinner he had nearly knocked him out at the table.

Nice to spend some good time though.

So much for the steady cam. Here's Ryan laughing at my amazing jokes.

Quincy Market on a cool night.

Faneuil Hall looks nice this time of year.

Ma and her boy.

Back to Logan the next morning. Until the next excursion!
